Büyükada, Heybeliada, Burgazada or Kınalıada? A quick, honest guide to picking the right island — and how to see two in a day.
Four inhabited islands, four different days out. The good news: they're all on the same ferry line, so you can't really go wrong — but here's how to choose the one that fits you.

The four islands at a glance
Büyükada is the biggest and busiest — the hilltop Aya Yorgi monastery, grand mansions, the vast Prinkipo orphanage, the island museum and the best-known beaches. Heybeliada is greener and calmer, with the historic Halki Seminary, pine walks and clear-water coves. Burgazada is the quiet, literary one — Sait Faik's home island, best for a slow lunch and a sunset. Kınalıada is the closest, sunniest and most beach-focused, with a deep Armenian heritage.
One day, one island?
If it's your first time and you have a single day, go to Büyükada — it simply has the most to see and do. Start on an early ferry to enjoy it before the crowds, and if you have energy left you can hop off at Heybeliada on the way back.
Two islands in a day
Because the ferry calls at each island in turn (Kınalıada → Burgazada → Heybeliada → Büyükada), pairing two is easy. The classic combination is Büyükada + Heybeliada — the big-hitter island plus a greener, quieter contrast — which is exactly what most guided tours do. If beaches are your priority, pair Kınalıada (first stop) with Büyükada.
