The Princes' Islands are an easy day out, but a little packing sense — and picking the right season — makes it much better. Here's what to bring and when to go.

What to pack

  • Cash (small notes) and a card — many vendors are cash-preferred.
  • An İstanbulkart, pre-loaded, for the ferry (and island buses).
  • Comfortable, closed shoes for cobbles and the Aya Yorgi climb; sea shoes for pebbly coves.
  • Sun protection — hat, sunscreen, water; there's little shade on the hills.
  • Swimwear and a light towel in summer.
  • A light layer — the open ferry deck is breezy even in summer.

Weather & the best time to go

Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–October) are ideal — mild and green. July–August is hot and crowded (especially weekends); the sea is warm for swimming from about June to September. Winter is quiet and atmospheric, but many beach clubs and seasonal cafés close and ferries run less often. Whatever the month, go early on a weekday. More in the visit guide →
