The Princes' Islands are one of the easiest day trips near Istanbul to do with children: no cars, plenty of open space, beaches, bikes and boats.

Why it works with kids

Because the islands are car-free, kids can roam far more freely than in the city — only bicycles and the electric Adabüs share the lanes. The boat ride itself is an adventure, and there's space to run at the squares and parks.

Kid-friendly spots

  • Luna Park square on Büyükada has a playground and room to play.
  • Nakibey beach is shallow, calm and family-oriented.
  • Dil Burnu park has a playground, picnic grounds and a gentle trail.
  • Ice-cream stops (Roma Dondurma) are a reliable win.

Practical tips

Strollers are fine around the flat harbour and shore road, but the interior is hilly and cobbled and the Aya Yorgi climb is too steep for pushchairs. Bring sun protection and water (little shade on the hills), and keep an eye out for bikes on shared lanes. Some bike shops have child seats.
